History
Two days after the British left the Arabian Gulf, the United Arab Emirates proclaimed itself an independent state on 2nd December, 1971. The newly proclaimed republic consisted of six emirates, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Ras Al Khaimah joined the federation a year later to complete the present day U.A.E. The capital of the United Arab Emirates is the city of Abu Dhabi.
From the mountainous areas of Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah to the empty desert of Abu Dhabi, from the 260 square kilometers of Ajman to the 67,340 square kilometers of Abu Dhabi, the emirates varied greatly but under the wise leadership of their rulers, the emirates prospered.
