Working Hours, Overtime /Compensatory Time Off, Public Holidays
Working hours
- Regular working hours are 208 hours per month based on 48 hours per week. Employees are expected to be flexible with regards to working hours to ensure proper care of our patients.
- Prior to signing the employment contract, the health professionals required to perform shift work has agreed to work 12-hour shifts, which include unpaid break time of a minimum of 1 hour as required by the Labor Law. Overtime is paid for all working hours that exceed 48 hours per week or 208 hours per month.
- Commuting time between home and place of work and vice-versa will not be included in hours of work.
- The regular working hours will be reduced by two hours per day during the time of Ramadan.
- Shift Planning Coordinator will arrange the monthly shift and scheduled day off. These shifts will be clearly displayed on a roster. However, it must be accepted that these may vary at short notice due to exigencies of work.
Overtime / Compensatory Time Off
- It is Manzil’s Policy to pay overtime payments to permanent Employees in non-supervisory positions or grant compensatory time off as a compensation to eligible Employees for the work performed in excess of the normal forty-eight (48) hour working a week if requested to work by Line Manager / Department Heads
- No overtime / compensatory time off will be granted for traveling time within the UAE.
- All instances of overtime work must be approved in advance by the employee’s line manager. Unauthorized overtime / compensatory time will not be paid.
- Overtime pay shall be paid after submitting appropriately completed timesheets by the monthly cutoff date (15th every month) in the month along with the monthly salary as follows:

- The regular overtime rate of 125% is paid on all working hours in excess of 208 regular working hours per month (48hrs*52weeks/12 months).
- If a non-supervisory employee is required to work on his rest day an overtime rate of 150% is applicable or another day off. An overtime rate of 150% is applicable for any overtime worked in excess of 52 hours per month.
- If a shift worker is required to work on a public holiday, a public holiday addition of 150% is applicable.
- Shift workers can choose to opt for a fixed “Shift Allowance” payment as part of total salary each month, which covers the regular overtime up to 52 hours per month. If the employee works less than 52 hours overtime one month, the employee will still receive the allowance with the understanding that the hours will be made up over time. If the employee works more than 52 hours overtime on average, the overtime rate of 150% applies for exceeding hours. This option is added as requested by the employees and is not a mandatory payment structure.
Public Holidays
- Employees will be entitled to leave with full pay on the following 7 Public Holidays as listed below:
- Hijra New Year (Islamic New Year)
- Gregorian New Year
- Eid Al Fitr
- Eid Al Aldha
- Prophet Mohammad Birthday
- Commemoration Day
- UAE National Day
The exact number of days and dates of the above shall be announced by the UAE government for the private sector.
As shift requirements do not change, the staff is sometimes required to work on public holidays or rest days of which he/she is entitled to 150% of his remuneration in respect of the hours worked. The management can either compensate the hours worked monetarily or grant a compensatory time off in lieu of the hours/days worked.
